Out and about this weekend in LA, actress Evan Rachel Wood looked particularly arresting. For all the right reasons. First of all she attended a charity gala dressed in an interesting and beautiful Preen dress. She styled it in her own image, playing up the 50s elements and letting the quirkiness shine through. I think it was something of a triumph actually, easily beating Camilla Belle to best dressed at the event (see below), even though Camilla was wearing Oscar de la Renta and is unforgivably pretty.
Then ERW stepped our for dinner wearing an exciting, 40s-inspired blue and red ensemble from Roland Mouret. Styled to perfection with shoes, clutch, hair and make-up, young Evan is definitely one to watch if you are interested in the more unexpected side of fashion. Well played lady.

Julianne Moore in Lanvin. And Lanvin.
Julianne Moore was quoted as saying something along the lines of 'I'll wear anything Alber Elbaz sends me. I don't do fittings, he just sends the dresses over and I wear them.' Which is probably why she is so often photographed wearing his line for Lanvin. Twice this week she stepped out in his dresses. The first was a black velvet sheath with white silk chiffon sleeves and neck. I liked it. I would definitely wear it. And then she wore a much more risky number. Also black. A knit this time, with massive silk sleeve detail. I think I may like this more, but not necessarily on Julianne. It's a tough one, because it fits better than Lanvin usually does on her (often quite baggy), but now that I am used to that, I am not sure the short, tight and shiny is working for me. She is after all, a rather gracious lady in her 50s. Having said all of that, I still love her in Lanvin. Julianne was promoting her new book in the Freckleface Strawberry series. This one is the musical. And she wore a red silk dress to the launch. Lovely. Julianne Moore is a style rock star. That's all.
Trend Alert: Mustard Knits
It is always fun when the peeps out there decide what the trends are, rather than the runway. Sure, they can only operate within what is available, but the winter runways weren't exactly busting with mustard knits. And yet, this festive weekend, there were not one, not two, but three different celebrities wearing it. I think we can safely say that mustard knits are a trend. And it is worth looking out for choice pieces for next winter already.
For those of you who are already bleating about not being able to wear the colour, shush, I will send you to Camp Quityor Bitchin' if I hear much more of that. All you have to do is pop on a scarf and your delightful face will look glorious, and your body will be fully on trend in the colour. Done. Bam.
Check out Kirsten Bell, Hillary Duff and Kelly Preston (and she is a red head), all rocking the colour this weekend.

2011 UNICEF Ball Best Dressed
You know how I feel about anything where international celebrities support Africa. I am massively in favour, of course. It is my absolute best thing. And this particular organisation, UNICEF, provides for educating the kids in Africa and for that I am particularly pleased. Yay. But that doesn't mean that I don't want my celebrities looking searing hot as they attend the annual UNICEF Ball in support of the cause. I want them to look especially good. As this brings even greater focus to this worthy endeavour. So who hit it out the park?
My first prize for awesomeness goes to Kristen Bell. Yes, I am having a moment of joy with the simple white sheath of a dress. And this Dior is no exception. It is stunning. Nicole Richie in Osman didn't look half bad either, I have to say. And Diane Kruger in black frothy Emilio Pucci with the red accents was a solid style showing. Jayma Mays in Kova and T completed the set of monochrome beauty at the event.
But it really is hard to choose any of these ladies as the best looking at the event when it was attended by Ron Swanson. yes, Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation. I die.

Miss SA 2011 is Melinda Bam
So I landed up trending on Twitter SA last night as a result of all the tweet chat around the screening of the Miss SA pageant. I was fairly outraged by the fact that there were no girls from Cape Town, that Gert Johan Coetzee was representing SA fashion (really??) and that the fashion through most of the show was baaad. With the exception of the swimwear which was restrained and flattering (thank you Dax Martin) and the yellow evening dress section (thank you Rosenwerth). For the rest, pah. And luckily the winner was wearing one of the Rosenwerth dresses, so she looked good for the final pictures.
The winner was Melinda Bam. I thought she was by far the prettiest girl there. Something of a mash up between early Brittany Spears and Dianna Agron (Quinn in Glee). Very, very pretty. Soft brown eyes, blonde hair and a killer bod. She really did stand out from the moment she stepped on stage. Lovely.
But there is never any fun without a bit of controversy. Melinda has been a FHM girl for a while, having appeared on their calender and everything. Horror. Really? I can't imagine that she has done anything that Miss Venezuela hasn't in her quest for international beauty stardom. Yes, she is also a bit on the short side and probably won't place internationally. But was she the most beautiful girl there last night, yes, indeed she was. Go Melinda. Have a great year and represent us well. Thanks.

Dianna Agron in Mary Katrantzou and Christopher Kane for Nylon
Obviously I love Glee. Why wouldn't I? I may like it a bit more than what is healthy, but whatevs. I find it interesting that my relationship with the characters has evolved over time. Where once I was a classic Finn fan, now I super-love Brittany S. Pearce more than life itself. You know how it is. But Quinn Ferbray has never been top of my list. She is fake and a bitch. As all very beautiful but insecure people are...I mean characters are. Obvs. But I have come to adore the actress who plays her - Dianna Agron.
Through a slow, steady process of choosing incredible gowns on red carpets and high streets alike - as well as being impossibly beautiful - I have come to like her and appreciate the risks she takes with her style from time to time. And now she appears on the cover of Nylon Magazine. Hip and happening right now.
Loving the sixties vibe, polka dot tights and Christopher Kane dress. Love that Mary Katrantzou dress she wore to the cover launch even more though. As I said before, obviously.

Princess of Charlene of Monaco in White Back Home in South Africa
In South Africa currently for the Conference on Climate Change (COP17) and other projects with Desmond Tutu, our very own Princess of Wittstock, Her Serene Highness, Princess Charlene of Monaco, was at an event in Cape Town last night. I was not at that event. Not sure why, cough, but I am quite sure we will find out soon enough what she wore. Skattie (see blogroll) was in fact there and tweeted that she was quite dazzlingly beautiful in real life. Awesome.
Earlier in the week she attended the 'One Billion Tree' campaign gala in Durban and wore that cute asymmetrical white dress. Charlene has been looking particularly lovely recently, having worn that equally asymmetric brown velvet dress a few weeks ago and that incredibly chic camel cape and skirt at about the same time (which was hot on the heels of her evening in Dior). So, looking good lady! Hope you have a great time back home here in SA.
